Review: iPhone: iSkin Revo case - Rugged and Handsome
Your iPhone never felt quite so protected!
Alright, so you folks should all know by now that I’m an accessory junkie. I had my Seidio iPhone Innocase and Holster for a while, and then I got my iSkin Revo iPhone case and have been using that for about a week. So I figure I may as well save you folks some trouble and help you figure out which is best for you.
The iSkin Revo case is, as I said, rather ruggedly handsome. I got it in Mojave (aka yellow), which in my opinion makes it stand out a bit and is a pretty catchy color. It got quite a few comments. The Revo also comes in Rah (light blue), Zahra (pink), Nighthawk (black), Blade (blue), and Diablo (red). Why they couldn’t just call them by their actual colors, I couldn’t tell you. We’re buying an iPhone case here, not this year’s latest BMW in Sandstone Obtrusive Taupe.
Funny names aside, this iPhone case does look pretty nice, even if it does add a little bulk. The overall feel is something a bit like a Nextel phone, only a little sleekier and sexier. (It is obviously an iPhone still, even with this rubber jacket on.)
The iSkin Revo iPhone case comes not only with the rubber case for the iPhone, but also an anti-glare + privacy screen protector. Yes, anti-glare + privacy. Check it out in the pic below. The iPhone is in the same position as the top pic in this story, only from an angle slightly off to the side. Click it for a closeup if you want.
Basically anyone viewing your iPhone from more than 30-45 degrees away gets to see nothing. Great for keeping significant other from seeing your plans for Valentine’s Day. As far as anti-glare goes, I’d have to say I am very happy with it. There is zero glare on the screen when looking at it dead on under the obnoxious fluorescent lights. It is also easier to apply than many screen protectors I have done in the past. A definite bonus.
The other thing the iPhone iSkin Revo comes with is a protective barrier that you can put on the front to protect the screen in a pocket or backpack, or attach to the back when it is not in use. Check out the pics below to see it on the screen as well as the back of the iSkin Revo where you can place it when not in use.
I figured I would hate the hard plastic and find it obnoxious to put on and off but I was wrong. I got used to it pretty quickly and after a day or so of use it was second nature for me to pull it off the front and casually slip it onto the back as it came out of my pocket, and vice versa as it went back in. It gave me a bit of added peace of mind knowing that I wouldn’t have to worry about anything at all scratching my precious iPhone while it was in this case and in my pocket or backpack or man-bag.
Speaking of protection, this case also has a few nice other features: The buttons all around are very protected, and so is the microphone port. The case covers them all. The microphone port is accessible via a small flap that flips up. Beyond that, there is also a removable piece that fits into the bottom to protect it the port from dirt, dust, grime and moisture. Not too bad of an idea if you’re an outdoorsy type!
Of course, the unfortunate part of dropping it into your pocket or your backpack or your European Carryall is the fact that this thing is rubber. So not only can it be a slight exercise in agility to retrieve it from a pants pocket, but it likes to pick up lint and whatnot as well, as you can see from a couple of the pics if you view the full size version. Really, though, those are my two only gripes about this case.
Overall I was very happy with it. How happy? Well, my Seidio iPhone Innocase is back on my iPhone. But that isn’t to say I didn’t really enjoy the iSkin Revo case. It is a very nice case, but I think made more for people who are a little… harder on their phones than I am. If you’re a former Nextel user, or just like more rugged and sturdy phones, then this case is for you. If you’re just a guy, like me, who likes errr pretty phone cases.. I’d go with the Seidio Innocase.
